I decided to become a wedding photographer after I moved to Milwaukee from Brazil, to stay with the love of my life and best friend. But I had a few people surprised when I brought up the subject. Why wedding photography? Today I'm going to share with you 5 reasons why I love wedding photography.
1. Capturing Love Stories
Since I’m a little girl I’ve been driven by love stories. It started with all the Disney movies, then love songs, Brazilian soap operas, rom-com movies, plays, books, news, and photography. I’m not sure if it’s my zodiac sign or just an obsession for happy endings, but love stories have my heart. So being able to be a wedding photographer for a living feels like a life purpose calling. I see myself as a cupid or like a fairy godmother.
2. Every wedding day is unique
Just like no couples are not the same, neither are weddings. Every wedding I get to shoot has its own elements… weather, venue, people, light, schedule, etc. This is especially true in a world we're living in, with so many options and access to creative ideas. As a professional wedding photographer, I love capturing different weddings, whether it's a modern Chicago venue, an old school Barn in Wisconsin, a small and intimate backyard, or whether it’s a traditional church wedding, or a Halloween-themed wedding. One of my favorite moments of the day is the first time the groom sees his bride and their first dance as husband and wife.
3. It’s a challenge
I absolutely love how wedding days are full of energy and busy schedules. I’m always joking around that I really enjoy the pressure of capturing a wedding day because I was raised in a huge town back home in Brazil, so I feel like it's my natural habitat. LOL
4. Creating connections
I really enjoy meeting my clients and getting to know more about them and their love stories. When I have the chance to closely follow their wedding planning, visions, and personal tastes, I can connect with them way better over an engagement session and the wedding day. This makes them feel comfortable with my personality and with posing in front of the camera. And that also gives the chance to be the one always reminding them during a wedding day to be present, to take deep breaths, and enjoy the moment.
4. It's so rewarding!
I’m not sure there is a bigger honor than being a part of a couple’s biggest and happiest day and them trusting you as their wedding photographer. I find being a professional photographer extremely enjoyable and fun, and I feel lucky that I can get to live my life doing something I’m passionate about. At the end of the day, I’m here to serve the people that trusted me, and hopefully, we can create a connection for life.
